Can we keep this short? Like 300 words or less. I know, Google doesn’t like that. BUT! It’s about me today and my inability to write over 300 words. I’m sure Google will understand.

Now flow we with me. Let’s talk about this Spiced Apples Foster.

I buy fruits and veggies with the intent of eating healthy and always deviate. Going when I should have gone right. Instead of fruit I shove a grand ol’ piece of chocolate cake in my face. I think we can all agree, chocolate cake is so.much.better than a kiwi.

Because of my shameless cake to mouth shoving, my fruits and veggies end up as jam or stock.

Take this Spiced Apples Foster.

I bought some apples home. A couple weeks went by and these apples had seen better days. I took one looks and thought, can turn these into pie without the whole pie dough making thing?

OR!

Can I drown these apples in caramel?

Spices?

Some walnuts, maybe?

How ‘bout some booze?

Yah. Turns out you can. I took the idea of Bananas Foster and replaced it with apples.

Lit it up with some bourbon.

And man, oh man – Was this delicious!

Apples with a little spice. Loads of caramel. Walnuts for crunch. Bourbon ‘cause I think we’re all drinking now.

Served with vanilla ice cream.

It’s everything.

So grab those apples in the bottom of your fruit drawer. The ones you forgot about. They’ve seen better days. Recycle those bad boys into a Spiced Apples Foster.

Spiced Apples Foster Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup 1 stick Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Light brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup Heavy cream
  • 3 Medium apples peel and sliced
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup Chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup Bourbon
  • Vanilla Ice Cream for serving

Instructions

  • In a cast iron or heavy skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until combined and mostly melted about 2-3 minutes. Carefully pour the heavy cream and whisk to combine.
  • Add the sliced apples to the skillet, followed by the vanilla extract, spices, and chopped walnuts. Cook, allowing the mixture to bubble and the apples to soften slightly about 5 minutes. Pour the bourbon and allow the mixture to bubble once more. Carefully, using a long lighter, ignite the mixture (be sure to have a lid handy to extinguish the fire should it get out of hand). Allow the fire to burn out.
  • Spoon mixture in a small bowl and serve with a few scoops of vanilla ice cream. Eat immediately.
