Boozy Drinks

Blueberry Lime Smash

Blueberry Lime Smash {Mind Over Batter}

I am having a party. OK, it’s not a party per say – It’s a barbecue.

Of massive proportions. OK –  Not MASSIVE proportions.

Blueberry Lime Smash {Mind Over Batter}

It’s a barbecue.

With the permeating scent of charcoal briquettes.

With meats sizzling on the grill.

And salads – ‘Cause no one wants to eat anything heavy these days.

And cakes. For the kiddos.

And desserts. For the um… Kiddos.

And a soda bar.

And a photo booth. I have a hashtag and errthing.

And sidewalk chalk.

Side note: Mr. MOB is NOT going to like the sidewalk chalk idea. I’m allowing 6 year old girls to vandalize the walls in our backyard. He doesn’t know.

He doesn’t know… So… Shh, ya’ll…

Blueberry Lime Smash {Mind Over Batter}

And when the kiddos go home, I’m opening the Booze Bar.

THE BOOZE BAR!

OK – It’s really a table with loads of booze.

And homemade simple syrups.

And 4 types of infused vodka.

And rum.

And Tequila Avion; the best way to fly, if you ask me.

Blueberry Lime Smash {Mind Over Batter}

Can we talk about Tequila Avion? Listen, I’m not one of those chicks who drinks tequila. It’s harsh on the throat situation. True harsh. I’m a lightweight, plus I don’t want to feel like my throat has caught fire. It’s really hard to get firemen down your throat to put out a fire.

Wait…

Avion tequila is ultra slow filtered, so it goes down smooth. I’m partial to reposado, a tequila aged less than a year in oak barrels. The aging produces a smoother, subtler and more complex flavor, while mellowing the harshness of the alcohol.

Dig?

So I made you a simple tequila smash.

Are you ready to smash that?

Blueberry Lime Smash {Mind Over Batter}

The first part of this cocktail involves a little work on your part. I wanted to highlight the blueberry flavor here. As such, you’re making a blueberry simple syrup.

It’s… Simple…

All you need is sugar, water, blueberries, and a splash of vanilla extract. Once your syrup is ready the rest is cake. Um… Cocktail…

Add a few blueberries and a couple of lime slices. Then add the simple syup.

Blueberry Lime Smash {Mind Over Batter}

Smash that.

Smash it good and nice. Smash it until the blueberries and lime become crazy fragrant.

Then add the tequila, followed by ice, and top that jammy with seltzer.

Blueberry Lime Smash {Mind Over Batter}

Do I have to tell you what this jammy will do to your party situations?

Blueberry Lime Smash {Mind Over Batter}

I’m no mixologist. I’m not… But I do know my way around a bottle of tequila. And I do know my way around a flavor packed drink. Will you get carried away by the sweet/tart flavor of blueberries and zesty limes? Will you forget this packs an Avion tequila punch? A punch that will make you crash in the land of questionable Fourth of July summer actions?

Blueberry Lime Smash {Mind Over Batter}

You bet your ass it will.

Disclaimer situations: I am in no way affiliated with Tequila Avion, and was not offered a bottle of tequila in exchange for this post. Just like their ish and felt like posting about it.

Happy Fourth and drink responsibly. Don’t want to hear about you on the news.

Blueberry Lime Smash

I am having a party. OK, it's not a party per say - It's a barbecue.

Ingredients

The Blueberry Simple Syrup

  • 1 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup of cold water
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • Splash of vanilla extract

The Smash

  • 2-3 tablespoons fresh blueberries
  • 2 slices of lime
  • 3 tablespoons blueberry simple syrup
  • 1 ½ oz. tequila I used Avion
  • Ice
  • Seltzer water

Instructions

  • Make the simple syrup -
  • Combine the blueberries, water, sugar, and vanilla extract in a small pot. Bring to a boil over high heat. Lower the heat and simmer until the sugar is completely dissolved and the blueberries have burst and softened, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and strain the mixture, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids or save them for another use, such as an ice cream topping. Transfer the simple syrup to a glass container with a tight fitting lid. Simple syrup will keep for a couple of weeks in the refrigerator. To extend the life of the simple syrup, add about a tablespoon of vodka. Your syrup will last MONTHS this way. Makes about 1 1/2 cups of simple syrup.
  • Make the smash -
  • To a 4 oz glass, add blueberries, lime, and simple syrup. With a muddler, or the handle of a wooden spoon, smash the blueberries and lime until you released their juice and the limes are fragrant. Add the tequila and stir quickly to combine. Add ice and top with seltzer.
